Canon and Nikon are two of the top brands when photography is concerned. So, when posed with the question of which is better, it is hard to get a clear-cut answer. Both Canon, as well as Nikon, make some of the best DSLR cameras with no compromise on quality. Nevertheless, both the cameras have different offers to provide based on the model selected which suits a buyer’s needs.

So, if there is a comparison, who wins?

Whether we’re talking about a novice who is just venturing into the world of photography or a professional artist who is going for a full-frame power-packed camera mode, read on to understand which camera is the best one to go with!

Canon vs Nikon – Which Outdoes the Other?

The Need for Speed!

Speed is a significant aspect that most photographers look for in a camera and both Canon and Nikon do well in the said department.

Both Nikon and Canon are neck-to-neck when it comes to the autofocus speed with a slight difference being only in their burst speed rates. Canon bags the prize with its 10fps burst speed rate with its EOS 7D Mark II, making this camera a top-notch product for sports shooters. Nikon lags a bit behind at 6fps with its fastest camera D7200. A more advanced camera provides an option of 14fps by 1D X Canon and 11 fps by Nikon’s D4S.

However, if an entry-level and budget-friendly camera is a requirement, then Nikon comes up with more speed, 6-7fps for D7200 whereas Canon T6S is at 5fps.

Video Quality Is Important!

Canon has better leverage against Nikon as far as the video quality is concerned, but that’s a given, as Canon was the first to come up with a hybrid autofocusing system that allows the camera to focus and refocus while recording. Canon also boasts of a wide range of lenses that photographers can exclusively use according to their needs. We wouldn’t be doing justice if we entirely ignore Nikon regarding video quality, because while Canon steals the show, Nikon comes close. Nikon boasts of 60 fps frame rate that lends a smoother motion as compared to Canon’s 30 fps frame rate. Though Canon traditionally displays a better video, Nikon’s latest effort in this sphere is quite commendable and has sufficiently narrowed the gap between the two.

Do Not Forget About the Sensors

Both Nikon and Canon come with cameras that offer similar sized sensors, but there’s more to image quality than just sensor size. Just when we think that one manufacturer has leapt forward towards sensor technology, the rival instantly catches up!

Nikon’s latest segment of DSLRs seems to use a new sensor design element which allows the camera to erase the low pass optical filter eliminating surplus moiré, or distortion in pattern and fine lines. Canon, on the other hand, seems to produce DSLRs that are more focused towards megapixel. The latest announcement on this front is their full frame 50-megapixel (MP) DSLR camera but choosing a camera only by MPs is like picking a book based on its cover. However, one interesting aspect to note is that higher megapixels do allow higher resolution for large prints and makes cropping easier without compromising on image quality. For instance, Canon’s EOS 5D does manage to capture an image of 8688 x 5792 resolution while Nikon manages a decent 7360 x 4912 resolution at 36 megapixels.

While the two brands focus on very different areas concerning sensor technology, both possess fantastic image quality. But, that does not imply that both the cameras can produce an exact image of the same location. For instance, colors between both options are likely to wary. The choice of choosing one color preference over another is entirely personal, but both these cameras are excellent in their capacity.

Be Mindful of Operation

When it comes to performance, both brands fare the same, with minute differences in detailing and the way each camera operates. This difference occurs mainly in the terminology, for starters, the “TV” of Canon and “S” of Nikon both stand for shutter priority mode.

Nikon prefers to use simpler terminology than Canon. It’s easier to remember Continuous Autofocus of Nikon’s autofocus modes than Canon’s Ai Servo Autofocus.

Consider the Battery Life

Battery life is vital, and while Canon has good battery life, here, it is Nikon all the way. Nikon’s D7200 requires a single charge to churn out several pictures throughout the day and has, almost twice the battery life of its Canon counterpart. Nikon has managed to fare higher battery ratings quite often than a Canon model.

Canon vs. Nikon – Who wins?

Buying a DSLR differs significantly than purchasing a digital camera. It is an expensive affair and especially if a user decides to switch to another brand after accumulating lenses and accessories. Also, changing sides means additional learning as both the brands are different in their terminology and operations.

Which brings us to the question – which brand is the winner?

With both Nikon and Canon offering excellent cameras with crystal image quality, it is hard to choose one brand over the other. It all boils down to the preference of a buyer. As a beginner, one should consider buying Nikon because of its affordable options and easy terminology.

For a professional, Canon fits the bill with its advanced high-end premium models. Both offer quality videography, but Canon gets an edge over Nikon because of its lenses and autofocus well-crafted for digital photography.

I was curious if you ever considered changing the structure of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
